Observe edition 0.1.0
See what your MCP servers’ arguments actually did.
effectprobe setup puts a recording relay in front of the servers Claude Code and Codex already run. It shows every change before making it, asks once, and restores every file if any step fails.
Recordings stay on this machine. No command opens a network connection, there is no sign-in, and your servers keep their own traffic. .mcp.json files checked into repositories are never rewritten unless you name one with --config.

effectprobe setupWhat the script does
It installs uv with Astral’s installer if uv is missing, which may edit your PATH. It downloads the wheel, checks its SHA-256, and runs uv tool install. It does not run setup. The checksum is served from this site, so it detects a corrupted download and cannot detect a compromised site. If that matters to you, take the manual path.
This site is the only place effectprobe-observe is published. It is not on PyPI.
It is source-available under FSL-1.1-ALv2, not open source. You may read, use and modify it, including at work, but not offer a competing commercial product or service built on it. Each version becomes Apache-2.0 two years after it is published. The licence text ships inside the wheel.

effectprobe setupAfter setup
Restart your clients and work normally. The report states what it classified and what it could not: an argument filled with a short value is reported as below the floor, never as harmless. uninstall restores each config byte for byte when you have not edited it since, and only the entries setup changed when you have.
